SELLING PLATER PRICE DISPUTE.
Backers had the best of it at Lakeside yester-
day, four favorites winning, though Sutton’s
defeat in the two-year-old race was a body blow
to them. The weather was warm, the track fast
and the attendance good.
Owners of horses are meeting contention over
their selling race price ideas. After Caufield
won the fifth event yesterday, he was bid up to
$700 by Cass Sloan, the jockey, $300 over his en-
tered price and bought in.
In the last race Sloan ran Walkover up to
$1,000. $600 over his figure. He too, was bought in.
NOTES OF THE TURF.
So far there has been no full date agreement
between the three Cincinnati tracks.
Phillips, the colored man who used a knife
on Ed Corrigan at Latonia last Thursday,
is still at large. He is also ‘’wanted by the Ten-
nessee authorities for murder.
LAKESIDE FORM.
